Malmaison Birmingham is a converted Royal Mail sorting office right at the heart of The Mailbox, an upmarket shopping and dining destination in Birmingham’s city centre. It has Malmaison’s unique stamp on the building, which has 192 super slinky bedrooms and suites.

Fire Safety Services (UK) Ltd have been the ongoing service provider at this site since late 2014 servicing the fire alarm system. The site has a three panel Zitton System which is networked, this also interlinks with The Mailbox fire system and is therefore a complex set up.

Fire Safety Services identified (early into servicing the sites) that the panels on the fire alarm system where in need of an upgrade as the most modern Zitton detection would not interface with their ageing panels and therefore would compromise the integrity of the system. They had been ill advised by other fire alarm companies who said the only solution was to install a brand new fire alarm system, which would be extremely costly.

We undertook a complex project to upgrade all three panels while minimising the down time of the hotel having no fire cover. This was achieved after discussion with Malmaison and a careful and thorough plan being devised. This was completed in less than 24 hours with no disruption to the sites guests or operation to the delight of the staff on site.

Fire Alarms

We often receive calls from businesses saying they have been quoted thousands of pounds (by other fire safety companies) to replace their fire alarm system.

Most people in charge of a budget for fire safety would obviously seek a number of opinions and comparative quotes before they decide to part with a considerable amount of their company’s budget.

The only reason, we suspect other fire safety companies quote for changing the whole system is that the devices and panel are old and needed upgrading and they don’t necessarily have the expertise to think of a bespoke or alternative solution.
