Helping with compliance since 2011.
Jane Smith – RVL Group
In 2011 RVL’s offices underwent a refurbishment and had a large warehouse extension to store aircraft. In order for the works to comply with fire safety legislation an order was placed with Fire Safety Services (UK) Ltd in May 2011 by Fred K Lamb Electrical Ltd, based in Nottingham.
A Gent by Honeywell ‘Vigilon Compact’ panel was installed and included detection to the new aircraft hangar. The conventional fire alarm panel that previously controlled the existing building was replaced with a mains powered interface, enabling us to keep the equipment already installed within the offices. Due to the dangers associated with aircraft being serviced in the hangar 6 x flame detectors were installed around the perimeter of the hangar to ensure fast activation in the event of an emergency fire situation.
The installation was commissioned in June 2012 and since then, Fire Safety Services (UK) Ltd have serviced and maintained the fire alarm system.
An aircraft hangar or large warehouse environment presents many challenges for fire detection with varying fuel loads, ignition sources, large quantities and vertical arrangement of fuel loads making prediction of fire scenarios very difficult.
The environment is generally dirty, affecting the performance of traditional detection systems and generating false and potentially missed fire alarms.
Getting the correct advice on the right type of fire alarm for your aircraft hangar or warehouse is vital and can drastically minimise false alarms and save your business money.
